Lesbian Space Princess Gets Halloween Release Date After Impressive Festival Run

SYNOPSIS

Cineverse has revealed that the award-winning animated sci-fi comedy Lesbian Space Princess will officially land in U.S. theaters on October 31, 2025—just in time for Halloween.

The feature debut from South Australian filmmakers Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese follows Princess Saira, an introspective royal who embarks on a wild rescue mission to save her bounty-hunter ex-girlfriend from the villainous Straight White Maliens—with some chaotic help from a runaway gay-pop idol.

Following a stellar festival run, Lesbian Space Princess has quickly become a global sensation. It premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2024, where it won the Audience Award for Feature Fiction, and went on to capture the Teddy Award for Best Queer Feature and second place in the Panorama Audience Award at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. It was also named Best Australian Feature at the 72nd Sydney Film Festival, earned the Grand Prize at Poland’s Octopus Film Festival, and screened in Annecy’s Contrechamp section.

The film’s all-star Australian voice cast includes Shabana Azeez, Bernie Van Tiel, Gemma Chua-Tran, Richard Roxburgh, drag icon Kween Kong, and comedy legends Aunty Donna.

Critics have lauded Lesbian Space Princess for its sharp wit, striking animation, and unapologetically queer heart. The Hollywood Reporter hailed it as “a hidden gem,” while Variety praised it as “a testament to the power of independent filmmaking.”

Blending outrageous intergalactic adventure with heartfelt queer storytelling and irreverent humor, Cineverse’s Halloween release of Lesbian Space Princess is set to be one of 2025’s most original and joyfully subversive big-screen events.
